My novel is eating everything in my mind right now, except the ability to draw.
This was drawn in Athens airport. The Sphinx was found when the airport was being expanded, and is part of a group of antiquities on display there, all discovered during the expansion. We know the myth of Oedipus and the Sphinx, but on finding this, I liked the idea that there was a race of Sphinxes, not just the one famous riddler.
I stood and drew this for nearly an hour, almost missing my plane back to the US.
Sphinx, Minotaur, Cyclops and Centaurs, and all the other beautiful mythical creatures killed by humans in myth. Did they deserve death or is
myth just like history: written by the winners?
Nice drawing! I’ll be there tomorrow!
Echoing the above, even as a kid, I always rooted for the half human/ half plethora of different animal beings in mythology. I mean, I’d be pissed off too if I were a misunderstood half man/half bull shut up in a labyrinth. Imagine the family reunions of the winged human mother, lion father, and the kid with all the combined features.
